A few months ago I went up to Healdsburg for a three-day weekend, part wedding weekend, part quick escape. It turned out to be one of those trips that perfectly balances relaxation and inspiration. Montage Healdsburg really blew me away. The property’s design is beautifully integrated into the landscape, with vineyards and oak trees woven seamlessly together so you never feel like the resort was placed on the land, but rather within it.

Forest View Rooms & Design

We stayed in a Forest View room and honestly, I’d choose it again over the vineyard view, which is technically a higher room category and typically more sought after. The room sits elevated among the trees, so when you step out onto the deck, it feels like you’re suspended in the canopy, surrounded by soft green moss and filtered sunlight. The sliding glass doors open completely, and we left them open for most of the day to enjoy the weather. Montage does everything with quiet precision such as their room product, and the bathrooms here are no exception: spacious, thoughtfully designed, and featuring one of my favorite details, an outdoor shower.

Downtown Healdsburg & Evenings at Montage

One evening, we took the resort’s Cadillac Escalade shuttle into downtown Healdsburg, which is easily one of the most charming towns in Wine Country. Dinner in town followed by a stroll through the square reminded me why this area is so special: it feels upscale but not pretentious, full of warmth and authenticity. Coming back later that night, the resort was softly lit, the vineyards glowing under the warm lights and evening breeze which was a a small moment that really captured the essence of the place.

The next day was dedicated to pool time and relaxation. The poolside menu was perfect for a lazy afternoon. Breakfast the next morning was another highlight, simple, fresh, and exactly what you want in a setting like this.

Final Impressions

Before heading home, we stopped at one of our favorite wineries, Alpha Omega. Their rosé quickly became our new favorite, and the terrace overlooking the fountains made for a peaceful final tasting before the drive back.

What I loved most about Montage Healdsburg is how it manages to feel luxurious but also rustic without ever losing its sense of place. It’s earthy, elegant, and deeply connected to its surroundings, a property that feels like Wine Country at its best.
